Niels Bohr discovered the atom. Niels Bohr discovered the atom in 1913. Bohr was born in 1885 and later died in 1965. He devised the atom by using quantum ideas. Ernest Rutherford, an English physicist, in 1911 conducted experiments to design the nuclear atom with planetary arrangements of electrons.
Bohr thought that an atom can move through the nucleus in orbits without producing energy. Bohr also assumed that an electron could jump from one orbit to another of lower energy. The frequency of the emission is proportional to this energy difference.
This is a picture of an atom.
Another picture of an atom. Bohr who first associated spectral lines with pairs of energy levels, making the initial step in the development of the quantum mechanics of atomic structure.
